Artistic Expression - a little history: Years ago, artistic expression was in immediate relation to people’s livelihoods, and our history was documented by paintings on walls and vases. Children apprenticed with adults to learn trades that they were expected to become masters in if they wanted to eat and feed their families. Everyone needed to become a master of a certain skill, and they needed the artistic expression to make their skill favored above others. If they could not do this, they could not survive in the world.
Assembly lines were invented, and people were suddenly expected to learn nothing more than a single step in a giant project. There is nothing wrong with this; in fact, it is very much a good thing. We would not have the world and the luxuries that we have today if not for the industrial revolution. What is wrong is that artistic expression became little more than a hobby for the eccentric. What is wrong is when we started taking crafts out of schools, and limiting artistic expression in children. What is wrong is when people stopped giving crafts more than a passing look. Our Purpose:
Allegory of the Cave: There was once a document written by a Greek philosopher named Plato who wrote a story called The Allegory of the Cave. This story discussed shadows on the walls of a cave. He imagined that if people were bound and chained so that they saw nothing but the shadows of others on the walls of a cave, these people would come to believe that the whole world was this cave and these shadows; and that finally coming out of this cave, they may even believe that the real world was nothing but a dream. Our world today is becoming a shadow of the world it once was, artistic expression is nothing more than a shadow of what it once was. The industrial revolution helped us in so many ways, but it also hindered us in so many others. Imagine now what could be possible if we combined the ways of today with the ways of yesterday. Imagine the world that could be created if people would begin again to dream, to create, to influence. Imagine the world where everyone had their own artistic expression, and took the time to develop and create it for others to see and appreciate.
Reiterating our purpose: The hope of this site is that people will find here new ways and techniques of coloring our world with the individuality that it is missing from it today, and that they will realize the importance of this individuality and color. The hope is that this site will show people that it is possible to have luxury as well as artistic expression.
