Holiday Crafts
Posted On 11-25-2008 , 6:56 PM
I finally completed the Holiday Craft category page for the Holiday section of this website. To spruce up the page and make it look a little "prettier," I created the below scrapbook page of Holiday Crafts:

Click the image to view the full version.
I found each of the holiday craft images in this scrapbook page within Photobucket and added them together for this page. I hope that everyone likes it. I plan on making a Thanksgiving Crafts and a Easter Crafts page soon, but I'm not sure that the Thanksgiving one will be done before Thursday, sorry.
Anyway, just wanted to tell everyone about the new page and share my scrapbook page. If you don't hear from me again before hand (and I doubt I will get a chance to post another entry before Thursday)...HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

Image Replacements
Posted On 11-21-2008 , 1:16 PM
I’m working on going through the old, original pictures in my site (at least those that are not very good) and replacing them with new and more attractive pictures.
Yesterday, I drew the below image for my Scale and Proportions for Humans page:
The new image has now replaced the original picture.
.jpg)
As you can see, the original one was pretty unprofessional and just…icky. It was done in Paint one day on my lunch hour at work and it just really looked like it was done last minute. It wasn’t even a drawing, which really depressed me.
The new one was also done on my lunch hour at work, but I drew it this time and took the time to scan it into the computer, add the pretty numbers in Photoshop, and make sure it was attractive.
I know I promised everyone more holiday pages soon, and I promise that I am still working on those as well (I have two Easter craft pages planned and one overall holiday craft page with a summary of crafts for all holidays). I am just working on gathering some more information and images for those pages before I put them up. I think you’ll all like the Easter craft pages, there is a tutorial for one of my favorite holiday crafts there….you’ll see what I’m talking about soon.
In the meantime, I hope you all like the new pictures and let me know if there are any specific images or crafts you’d like to see!

Holiday Headers
Posted On 11-13-2008 , 1:25 PM
My most recent art projects have been centered around this site, rather than drawing. The last few days have been specifically creating holiday backgrounds and headers for the site. Most of these have been easy, simple gradients or cut and paste. The Christmas header, however, was pretty difficult and I wanted to share how it was done.
A few Christmases ago, my family and I got little paper Christmas hats and wore them all Christmas day. I wore mine on top of my Santa hat, and had a picture taken of it. It was the only picture of a Santa hat that I had, so I wanted to use it in my Christmas header, but wanted to make it a little more traditional first.
I opened the picture in Photoshop and cropped the picture so that it showed just the hat, like you see below.
I then used the marquee tool and cut the hat from the rest of the background.
Then things got a little more tricky. I wanted to take the green paper hat off of the Santa hat. I went to Image --> Adjustments --> Replace color and turned the green paper into red paper.
Then, I used the Healing Brush Tool from the toolbar and made the paper part of the hat look as fuzzy as the rest. This took quite a while, because I had to repeat this step until the hat looked right.
Finally, I took the Eraser tool and, with a soft brush, fuzzed the edges of the hat and corrected the shape. Basically, just making the hat look more natural.
Then, to actually make it usable in my site, I added the hat to my header image (just opened the header in Photoshop and copied and pasted the hat over the header). I used Edit --> Free Transform to resize the hat, as it was taller than my header. Then, I used Edit --> Transform --> Rotate to fix the hat at an angle. Then I just moved the hat to sit on the head of the pheonix in the header and it was perfect.
Anyway, like I said, it was a lot of work for something so small. I love using Photoshop though, so it was worth it. Hope you guys like the results. Check out my new Christmas Crafts page to see tit in actuion.
Also, check out the Halloween Craft Kits page to see the holiday header that I created for that page. I created a couple of other headers, but I need to finish those pages before you will see them.
Let me know what you think, or if you have any recommendations.

P.S. This hat was updated (as seen in the header image above) when the site header was updated. The old fire headers are no longer showing in this site.

Paint the Logo
Posted On 11-05-2008 , 7:54 PM
I woke up early this morning, which is pretty much a miracle for me, but I did. Anyway, while my fiance was in the shower and I was bored, I created this little ditty. Not sure what else to do with it, so I figured I'd post it here.

Nothing really special, but it took up time and got rid of my boredom. This was originally three pictures:
These are the three images that make up the one I created. As you can see, I had to cut out the image of the painter and the easel to take out the background. I reversed the easel and skewed the CraftyArtWorld logo to fit on it. I then smudged the edges of the logo to make them more painted.
Hope you like the finished product. Wish I had a clue what I could use it for.
