Tutorial of the Week

Posted On 08-25-2008 , 4:15 PM

I just wanted to share my total pride and excitement at a page in this site being chosen as the "Tutorial of the Week" on www.rnel.net, a free tutorial site for Photoshop and similar programs.  The page that was chosen is the Photoshop Tutorial.  This is step 1 of a 4 step tutorial on creating and coloring a character within Photoshop.  The tutorial is compatable with any version of Photoshop, though 7.0 was used in it's creation.

A great Thank You to RNEL.net for not only excepting my tutorials, but for choosing one for this honored place.  And Thank You to everyone who has come to my site and enjoyed that or any of my tutorials and pages.

Gallery

Posted On 08-21-2008 , 1:03 PM

I am working on creating a gallery for this site.  The gallery will include artwork from when I first started drawing in 2003 to art I am currently working on.  If you are interested, you can track the progress of this gallery by visiting the page, though the gallery will not be added to the menu of this site until it is further along.

Unfortunately, I do not have much time in which to put this gallery together, especially if I want to continue drawing and adding to the overall site.  Because of that, I do not know when the gallery will be finished.  Be patient, I'll get it there as quickly as I can.  I'm hoping it will not take longer than two weeks or so, but I only have a few minutes here and there in which to work on it, so I can not guarantee anything.  Here is a little time-line sketch comparison, just for fun:

P.S.  If you are interested in showing your own artwork in our coming gallery, please click Submit Your Photo and submit your artwork and information to us.  Thank you.

Computer Art

Posted On 08-01-2008 , 7:45 AM

The Project:

One of my friends at work asked me to draw him an anime-style operator for a program he is working on.  The operator will appear beside a chat box and will offer assistance to the users of the site that the program is designed for.  I am still working working on the overall image (as is clearly obvious) but below is what I have so far:

The Process:

I have drawn the image within my sketchpad, but scanned it into my computer and am now in the process of coloring using Adobe Photoshop (not CS3, I have a really old version of Photoshop, but I love the one I have and the newer one is too fancy to run on my computer).  What makes this particularly fun is the use of my new Tablet.

If you haven't heard of a Tablet yet, it is a little screen (mine is about the size of a mouse-pad) and pen.  Hovering the pen over the screen gives you control of the mouse.  Move the pen, the mouse moves.  By touching the pen to the screen, it is like clicking and holding down the left mouse button.  It's a little difficult to explain, but it basically lets you draw onto the screen and have what you draw appear on your monitor.  This makes it much easier to draw and color in Photoshop.

My Debate:

I'm not sure what color hair to give her yet.  My original thought was black (to make the green eyes stand out), but my fiance wants blonde (FYI, I am blonde haired and green eyed).  Here are the colors I am now considering:
  • Golden Blonde
  • Strawberry (which is red with blonde highlights)
  • Black
  • White with blue highlights (she is anime after all, and there are many white-haired anime characters)
I am not sure yet what I am going to do.  If anyone has an opinion, let me know.  I will post a thumbnail version of the completed image when I have it done.

P.S.  Constructive
criticism is always welcome.  If anyone ever sees anything in my art that they don't like or that they know how to do better, please let me know.  Unless we are willing to accept criticism, we will never grow.

------Update Note 8/05------

Here is the updated version.  I settled on red hair with blonde highlights (red got the most votes from individuals at my work.  ^.^

I even created a Photoshop Tutorial of the process I used to create the character, so check it out!
