Blog Icon
Posted On 09-24-2008 , 11:00 AM
I realize that I have promised everyone the final step in my Photoshop Tutorial this month, and I promise that I will get to it, but I wanted to brighten up my right menu and make the image link to my blog a little nicer. This is what I came up with.
I originally created the black design around the red box to be yellow and the clipart-like drawings at the bottom were white. When it was done, everything looked way to Christmas-y though. So I had to rethink the color scheme. I think the black came off nicely without looking too dark or ruining the effect of the icon. Hope everyone likes it. If anyone has any feedback, I would love to hear it. I plan on making a similar banner for my store and my gallery, so please - - Feedback is welcome!

Page Status Update
Posted On 09-11-2008 , 7:57 AM
It has taken me a week, but the first of the two pages that were promised this month is now complete. There is a new Disney: Peter Pan tutorial available in this website. The tutorial takes you through drawing the Disney character Peter Pan from the basic shapes that make up a body, to the finished sketch.
The page also covers the Crayola color pencil colors which make up the various parts of Peter (pants, shirt, hair, skin, etc). I realize that most artists do not particularly care for colored pencils as a media, but I love them for Disney drawings. Disney uses such bright and clear colors that colored pencils are about the only way I can duplicate their color scheme. I image a good painter would be able to duplicate the colors with paints, but I am not that good at painting yet.
I hope that you enjoy the page. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please let me know!

Ball-Point Pen
Posted On 09-04-2008 , 8:54 AM
I came across an oldish drawing of mine the other day. It is a cross between a cobra and a hawk (the idea came from the book Snakecharm by Amelia Atwater Rhodes) and was done entirely in ball-point pen. Long story short, I saw this, got a few compliments on it, and immediate thought: "I wonder if I could do that again?"
So I did.
I sat down, ball-point pen in hand and forbid myself to use pencil. With pencil it is too easy to erase and erase and erase. It's not as big of a challenge when you can erase any error that you make. So, with my trusty ball-point pen I drew a woman's face. I have to admit that I did cheat on the hair a little. I used a magic market to color the hair because I didn't want to spend 2 hours getting that dark with a pen.

Other than my cheating on the hair, I stuck to the rules and I think that it came out rather well. I'm a little disappointed in the eye on the left (her right eye), but the rest I like. The mouth is my favorite part of the sketch, as I love the way the shadows came across.
Anyway, this little sketch now has a treasured place on my cubical wall at work.

Plans for the Month
Posted On 09-02-2008 , 3:30 PM
Well, September is here. It won't be too long before Halloween, Thanksgiving, and then MY BIRTHDAY! Oh, and Christmas ;)
Again I have to apologize for not drawing much. I had originally planned to draw this last weekend, but then with Labor Day and the long weekend, I came up with much more enjoyable plans. Not that I don't enjoy drawing because, obviously, I do. But I can draw anytime and a long weekend is meant for more active activities.
Anyway, I do have more plans for artwork and pages that are coming out this month. First, step 4 in the Photoshop Tutorial series (this one is on clothes) is coming just as soon as I have it written. There is also a tutorial on drawing Peter Pan in the works (for all those visitors to my Disney pages!). Below is the finished image for the Peter Pan page.

I have the images for that page finished, but am working on the written part of the tutorial.
It may not be this month, but there are at least 5 other projects and tutorials that I have planned. These include more in depth pastel tutorials and detailed shading tutorials. There will also be tutorials on how to draw eyes.
As you know, currently I have been working on the Gallery page for this site. The gallery is not finished, by any means, but has finally been added to the menu. I'd like to send a special "Thank You" to Idaka for her artwork contributions. She is wonderful.
I would also like to thank Reggie, a friend who has allowed me to post one drawing of hers and who has promised to submit more artwork soon.
If anyone else would like to submit their art, simply go to the Gallery and click Submit Your Photo.
Keep an eye out for those promised pages and keep drawing!
