Christmas Crafts

The holidays are a time for family, for friends, and for surrounding yourself with all the things in life that make you happiest.  Doing Christmas crafts with the family in the month leading up to the holiday is a great way to spend time with your family and create memorabilia that will last long after the kids leave home.

Adult Christmas Crafts:

Some Christmas decorations that you can create on your own to decorate your home include:

Most of these items are pretty self-explanatory, but the count-down calendars may need a few details added.  These are basically cloth posters with sewn on pockets for each day of month…or, for the 1st through the 24th anyway.  The pockets each contain a little piece of candy.  Every night, a child (or adult) takes the candy out that day’s pocket, basically counting down to Christmas Eve night.

All of these crafts can be created with or without kits, though we provide the kits here, as well as many other Christmas craft kits in our online store

Kids Christmas Crafts:

  • Sewing Stockings
  • Making ornaments
  • Creating holiday cards
  • Creating holiday picture frames
A personal favorite of this site owner is making your own holiday stockings.  Kids love creating things (which is why things like Legos are so popular), and they are especially proud when their creation can be used, especially when it can be used to receive more presents and holiday candy.

Joanne’s Crafts has an array of adorable felt Christmas Craft Stocking kits which make it easy for children (with adult supervision) to create their own beautiful and decorative stockings.  These kits come with the already cut felt pieces, which makes it easy and fun for children to assemble.

Check our online store for more stocking kit choices, including kits for Disney stockings and cross-stitched stockings.

Older kids and adults can also create their own stockings by designing, cutting, and sewing without a pattern.  Quilted stockings and character shaped stockings are easy to make, but don’t require a kit.

Other Christmas crafts for the family include holiday cards, ornaments, and picture frames.  Making your own holiday cards is especially fun because these Christmas craft items can be sent out to more distant family members and friends.  They can include pictures of the family or card stock holiday characters.

Whatever Christmas craft you enjoy…whether elaborate or simple, whether from a kit or from your own imagination…be sure to enjoy the time it takes to make it.  With good memories of making these Christmas crafts, the resulting ornaments will be a treasure among your holiday décor.
